 3    Profiles Guidelines

 Profile Features

You'll need to create at least one profile on your PC before you can list items from your mobile device. A profile is a template patterned on one of your eBay listings. Choose a listing that contains your favorite options.

Active profiles are stored on your mobile phone or PDA so you're ready to list wherever you are.

Selling Formats  Create a profile for any format you need: Auction-Style, Fixed Price, Store/Shop Inventory, or Classified Ad.

Categories  A profile keeps the category (and second category if used) from the original listing, and in some cases, the item specifics. You can search and change categories directly from your mobile device.

Shipping  A profile contains the shipping details used in the original listing. If you offer a flat rate for all buyers, shipping could be the same for every profile. For calculated shipping, a typical solution might be to create different profiles for various standard packages.

 Create New Profile

A profile duplicates everything in the original listing except for the title, subtitle, and photos. It's easy to update the new item description, add new photos, and change flexible details like price and duration.

Note:   If you want a Gallery picture to be included in your new Midprofile for eBay listing automatically, the profile must include the Gallery choice.

Select Profile Manager > Add Profile. Enter a brief profile name, the eBay item ID, and a description. Choose click to add profile to save it for later download.

 4    Midprofile on Your Mobile

 Launch Midprofile for eBay

When you launch the application a progress screen appears until the Main Menu is displayed.

The menus and window layouts are optimized for each handset so the presentation can vary depending on your phone model or PDA.

Navigation

Midprofile for eBay functions are streamlined to help you list on eBay using very few menus and work pages. Prompts and messages guide the flow so navigation is easy and intuitive.

Some mobile devices provide a joystick or stylus for scrolling and choosing selections. Other devices use special commands or keypad techniques. Use the tools available on your phone or PDA to view and work with all the Midprofile options.

 Sign-in

To perform any Midprofile for eBay tasks that require live communications you must be signed in. Most of the time you work "offline" without a live connection. You use airtime only during actual data transmission to eBay or live updates from Midprofile.

Enter your Midprofile account user ID and password and select Log In to begin a new session.

If you have more than one account, always log in with the correct user ID and password to access the files belonging to that account.

5    Basic Settings

 Settings Menu

The Settings menu choices allow you to set up defaults for your convenience (such as login details) and to optimize Midprofile for eBay. The Midprofile website help resources explain these optional features.

Listing Settings Lets you edit and add Quick Text keys.

System Settings Performance settings used for some mobile devices.

Camera/Photo Settings Performs mobile camera calibration. Also sets whether photos are saved between sessions.

Photo resolution

For Midprofile for eBay use, you must adjust the camera resolution so that your photos are the correct size and quality for eBay.

 Photo Capture Setup

To capture photos within the Midprofile application you need to calibrate your camera for first time setup only. Select Settings > Camera/Photo Settings. On the menu, select Calibration and follow the instructions. In a short time a message displays that calibration is complete.

 Photo Import Setup

Your mobile camera may operate so that you capture photos outside Midprofile for eBay, and then import them. You can save your photos in a folder in the camera memory or on a memory card.

Use the settings function on your device camera to set the resolution for the correct photo sizing. Do this any time you are saving pictures that will be later imported into Midprofile for eBay.

6    Begin a New Listing

 Download Profiles

When you download profiles they are stored on your mobile phone or PDA. You need to download from your PC only when you add a new profile or replace any profiles you downloaded previously. Profiles are designed for flexible use. You may need only a few because the same profile can be used for many different items. You can change categories and details directly from your mobile.

Select Download Profiles> Menu>Download. A status screen appears showing live communication. When the download is complete, you'll see the message: Profiles Downloaded Successfully.

 Select Profile

Choose Select to get the profile, then Back to return to the main menu. The profile applies to any listing that you create. When you have multiple profiles, Select Profile lets you switch to a new profile. For example, to change from a fixed price to an auction-style format.

 Select New Listing

After you select your profile and return to the main menu you can start your new listing. The New Listing window always has a blank Title and Subtitle field. It also contains pre-filled fields that it picks up from the profile. You can easily modify, overwrite, or delete this information, and add new details. You can correct mistakes or discard the listing and begin over.

 Listing Details

The rules are simple. If a listing activity is valid for eBay, you can do it with Midprofile for eBay. For example, an auction-style listing must always have a Start Price. You can change the Start Price but cannot remove it. However, you could add a Reserve price or a Buy-It-Now price.

Midprofile provides field-edit-checks to make sure you enter correct values such as numbers in price fields.

Note:  Your eBay account must be eligible for options like Buy-It-Now or 1-day durations.

7    Item Categories

Choose Category

Your profile may already include the category in which you plan to sell a new item. You can change to a new category, or add a second category as well.

To do this, select the current category in the New Listing window to go to the Choose a Category window.

Midprofile for eBay shows you all the available categories. These are categories you've used recently, and all categories associated with any profile(s) downloaded on the phone.

You choose from the available categories in a two-step action: First, select the category you want. Then Menu > Select /OK to confirm and return to the main menu.

 Search for Categories

To see more choices, Select Suggestions>OK to go to the Suggested Categories window. Enter relevant terms within a 55-character limit in the Query field.

Midprofile for eBay shows the most closely matching categories. Scroll down through the mobile phone window to see the best matches for your search terms. This procedure is identical to searching for categories on the SYI form.

You choose from the available categories in a two-step action: First, Menu > Select to specify the category you want.  Select OK to confirm, then Back to return to the main menu.

8    Enter Details and Description

 Quantity and Duration

You can enter a different quantity if you choose.

The Duration options appear in a selection list. Your eBay account must be eligible for 1-day listings.

Description

The Description opens in a separate scrolling window. It contains everything from your original eBay item including your description text, HTML formatting, designs, image tags, and custom inserts.

You can type over the item description text while keeping the HTML formats. This is convenient when you are entering text on your mobile handset. The new item description will keep all the color, size and font attributes.

 Design Aids

You can also start fresh and create text with different effects. Unless it is formatted with HTML, any text you enter will default to standard web-style text.

Note:   Users who prefer simpler designs may choose not to use HTML at all.

Midprofile provides some Quick Text keys for popular formatting uses such as headings, alignment, and font color and size. You can keep the standard keys or use the Listing Settings option to create any Quick Text design aids you want. Quick Text keys can be used to insert special material in a single keystroke. Examples might be a logo, a scanned image, or an eBay-approved video link.

 Shipping Cost

Note:   If the profile specifies calculated shipping, free shipping, or pick-up only, this field is NOT used.

Sellers who use flat rate shipping with a single carrier can use the S&H shipping and handling field to override the usual price for situations like an irregular package.

9    Capture or Import Pictures

 Photo Album

You can add as many as six free photos to each of your listings with free photo hosting at Midprofile. Photos are integrated into the new listing automatically.

Your mobile device camera may allow you to take pictures directly from the Midprofile for eBay application. Other mobile cameras require you to capture and save your photos in a folder. In this case, you can use the Midprofile for eBay Import feature. Any Midprofile for eBay pictures are placed into the Photo Album.

 Single Photo

You can capture or import one picture and add it to your new listing when you want something simple and quick. The first picture you capture (or import) is automatically selected as Photo 1. If the details and description are complete the new listing is ready to submit to eBay.

 Multiple Photos

You can create a more complex listing with up to six photos. The number of pictures that you can keep in the photo album varies by device. Any mobile phone or PDA will allow you to display at least six photos at a time.

Pictures are displayed in the Photo Album in the order in which you capture or import them. Discard any you don't want to keep. The Select option lets you choose the photos to be included in the listing, and the order in which they will appear in eBay's picture slideshow.

Note:   If your profile included the Gallery photo option, eBay will automatically select Photo 1 as the Gallery photo in the new listing.

10   Submit a New Listing

 Review and Submit Listing

All changes are saved as you work. When your new listing is complete you'll have a chance to edit it and review it. When everything is just the way you want it, submit the item for live transmission to Bay.

Within seconds you'll get a message that your item was successfully submitted to eBay with its new Item ID number. The new listing will look exactly the same as if you submitted it from your PC.

 Check Listing Status

Any time you submit an eBay listing you can review its status directly from your mobile device with the View functions. You can download fresh updates to tell you about current activity, including the time remaining and bid status.

Note:   You can end a Midprofile for eBay listing from your mobile device but only if you are in conformance with eBay's rules and policies.

 Revise Listing

After it is submitted to eBay your Midprofile for eBay listing is just like any listing created on a PC. You can make revisions within eBay's guidelines.

Use this opportunity to add pictures to your listing if your mobile device doesn't have a camera or if you prefer eBay's Picture Services or other photo resources. You can also include scanned images or add an approved video link.
