Guide
Getting started
Welcome to Midprofile for eBay 2.0. After a few easy setup tasks you'll be ready to create your first new mobile eBay listing.
You need to register before you can use Midprofile. The
FAQ tells you how to:
- Sign up for a free Midprofile for eBay account
- Authorize your Midprofile account with eBay
- Install the software on your mobile phone, smartphone or PDA
eBay guidelines
Listings created with Midprofile for eBay follow the same rules as eBay listings created on a PC. Buy It Now choices require your eBay
account to be ID-Verified or to meet a specific feedback level.
Look and feel
Midprofile makes the best use of your handset to help you list on eBay. The Midprofile menus and pages on your mobile model may look slightly
different from the examples in this guide. Use your handset keypad or available tools (e.g., touch screen, joystick or stylus) to work with
the Midprofile features.
Launch and signin
When you launch Midprofile for eBay a progress screen appears until the Main Menu is displayed. Choose
Signin. Be sure to enter your User ID
and password exactly the way it appears on your Midprofile account. Choose
Log in to return to the Main Menu.

Basic steps
Brief prompts and messages guide your actions. Progress screens display any time you have a live connection to Midprofile. You can move freely
around the Midprofile screens to make and save changes as you work. Here's a suggested order for creating a new eBay listing:
- Capture or import Photos
- Download (as needed) and select a Profile
- Select New Listing
- Enter a Title and save the listing
- Search for and choose a Category
- Create an item Description
- Enter Price details, Quantity, and select a Duration
- Select a YouTube video-id (option)
- Submit the new listing to eBay
After you successfully submit your listing to eBay you can review its bidding status directly from your mobile.
YouTube video
The quickest way to include a YouTube video in your new eBay listing is to shoot your video (or videos, if you want to list additional items) in advance
and upload it to YouTube with MMS Send. It can take about 15 minutes for your mobile video to be posted on YouTube and
available to Midprofile for eBay. See
Adding YouTube video to learn how to download and select video-ids with Midprofile.
In the meantime, you can use Midprofile to add photos and create the details and description for your item.
Adding photos
Select
Photo Album from the Main Menu. You can add as many as 6 free photos to each of your listings. You should include at least 1 photo
so that your listing displays a gallery picture during eBay buyer searches.
Camera calibration setup
The first time you select
Capture you'll see a calibration message. Calibration is a brief automatic procedure
that sets up your mobile camera to work with Midprofile. Respond
Yes/Allow until the calibration is complete.
Midprofile stores the calibration settings and adjusts your photos for optimal viewing on eBay.
Import photo tips
Some mobile cameras do not support live photo capture with Midprofile for eBay. In this case, take your item pictures using your mobile camera's photo
function and save the photos in a folder in the camera memory or on a memory card. You can take pictures before you begin a Midprofile for eBay
session, or temporarily exit Midprofile to do so. Change your camera settings so the image resolution is no greater than 640x480
(or 480x640 for horizontal photos). This resolution provides good quality results and makes your photo file sizes manageable as recommended by eBay.
Photo Album features
Pictures are displayed in the Photo Album in the order in which you capture or import them. Photo 1 is always used as the gallery photo in your new listing.
You can review your pictures as you capture or import them. Use
Discard to delete a photo you don't want to keep. The Select option lets you choose
the photos to be included in the listing, and the order in which they will be displayed in your Seller's description on the eBay View Item page.

Choose Back when your photos are complete to return to the Main Menu.
Tip The Photo Album Clear option deletes all pictures. Do not clear the Photo Album until the photos are
securely saved with your listing.
The photos will be integrated into your eBay listing automatically when it is submitted to eBay.
- Photo 1 will appear both as your gallery photo and as the main photo when buyers view your listing, as shown in the example.
- All photos will be included in the Seller's description area, following your text description and optional YouTube video.
Using profiles
A profile is a simplified selling form that makes it easy to list from your mobile. It specifies the eBay selling format — auction-style
or fixed price — and contains built-in information that conforms to essential eBay requirements. You choose a profile each time you create
a Midprofile for eBay listing and add text, photos and optional video, and item details. The profile is personalized with your eBay registration
details and seller preferences. Buyers see this information when they view your item listing on eBay.
Standard profiles
Your Midprofile account comes with a set of standard auction-style profiles. A standard profile contains options similar to eBay's shorter
selling form. Each standard profile uses PayPal as the payment method, and some combination of these common listing choices:
- Item condition New or used
- Shipping service Standard flat rate shipping or pickup only
- Handling time Item will ship within 2 business days of receipt of cleared payment
- Return policy Item returns accepted within 7 days, money back, buyer pays for return shipping
Standard profiles are currently available for Midprofile users registered on eBay.com USA and eBay Motors.
Custom profiles
You can create custom profiles to use on your mobile that include any features or preferences you choose. A custom profile gives you a flexible range of
listing options and is very similar to a template created with the full-featured Sell Your Item form. For example, you could offer free shipping,
optional insurance, and add a Listing Designer theme. If you want to sell items in a fixed-price format you can create a profile for Buy It Now listings.
See
Creating custom profiles to learn how to do this.
Note Users registered on international eBay sites need to create and use their own custom profiles.
Standard profiles are not supported for international eBay users in the current Midprofile for eBay 2.0 release.
Selecting a profile
You will need to download profiles the first time you use Midprofile but then they are automatically saved on your mobile. Choose
Profiles
from the Main Menu, then select
Download from the menu. You'll see a progress screen during the download and a success message when the download
is complete. Decide which profile you want to use and select a profile name from the list. Then return to the Main Menu and select
New Listing.
Note The standard profile names for the eBay Motors site begin with MOT but are otherwise the
same.

Create a title

The profile name displays at the top of the listing form. The New Listing screen displays a blank Title and Subtitle field.
Tip The Title field allows you to enter up to 55 characters. Enter as many keywords as possible.
This increases your item's visibility on eBay when buyers are looking for an item like the one you are selling. Good keywords can also drive buyers
to eBay from other search engines such as Google.
You can return to the Title field as you work on the listing if you want to add or remove keywords. You can also enter an optional
subtitle (extra eBay fee applies).
Save new listing
The title words identify your listing. Choose
Save before you continue. Midprofile returns to the Main Menu.
Select
Edit Listing to resume your listing. Scroll to the bottom of the listing. Your photos appear in the order in which
you selected them. Select
Save to include the Photo Album pictures with your listing.
Note Save your changes frequently. Saved listings are stored on the Listed Items page.
If you take a break or if your mobile phone loses power, you can pick up where you left off.
See View Listing features to learn how to do this.
Changing categories
You can easily change the category for a new listing and add an optional (extra eBay fee applies) second category. Select the current
displayed category on the Edit Listing screen to view the Choose a Category page. Midprofile for eBay displays the available categories.
Regular Midprofile for eBay users will see all recently selected categories, and all categories belonging to custom profiles.
Search for a category
To see more choices, select
Suggestions to go to the Suggested Categories page. This procedure is identical to searching for categories on the
eBay Sell Your Item form.
Your title keywords display as a default in the Query field. You can enter relevant search terms up to a 55-character limit. Select Search to
begin. The Get Categories progress screen is displayed until the search is complete. You will see an updated list of the most closely matching eBay categories.
First, Select the category, or categories, you want. Then choose Confirm to return to the Available Categories screen.

Select a category
You choose from the available categories in a two-step action: First, select the category you want. Then choose
Confirm to return to the Edit Listing screen.

Create a description
Select
Description on the Edit Listing screen.
Midprofile displays a separate scrollable page where you create your text description. You can enter plain unformatted text as you prefer,
or add simple HTML codes to change the text's appearance. Choose
Save to save your item description content, then
Back to return to the
Edit Listing screen.
In this example, the HTML codes create a bold heading that will stand out when buyers see the Seller's description on the
View Item page:
Old-Fashioned Fun!
Using Quick Text
Quick Text keys are a convenient way to format your description without typing in HTML codes each time. You can use Quick Text to enhance the
appearance and readability of your description. You can also define a Quick Text key to add a standard message with one keystroke such as
"Please contact me if you need faster shipping." You can create and save as many as five different Quick Text keys and update them whenever you need.
See
Creating Quick Text keys to learn how to do this.
Tip A custom profile can include a text description with built-in HTML that uses your preferences in
fonts, colors, and layout features. See Creating custom profiles.
Adding item details
Your Midprofile for eBay listing contains pre-filled fields that it picks up from the profile. You can modify this information and add new details.
Buy It Now listings have eBay seller eligibility requirements. Save your changes when the details are complete.
| Detail |
Description |
| Start Price |
Starting bid price for your auction-style listing only. Not used for fixed-price listings. |
| Reserve Price |
Minimum price you will accept for an auction-tyle item (extra eBay fee applies). Not visible to buyers. |
| Buy-It-Now Price |
- Auction-style listing: Gives buyers the option to pay the specified price and end the auction (eBay fee applies).
-
- Fixed-price listing: Specifies the selling price.
|
| S&H cost |
Shipping cost for an item with flat-rate shipping. You can add a handling cost (one total S&H cost) if you charge for packing materials.
This field is NOT used for other shipping choices:
- Pickups only
- Free shipping
- Calculated shipping
|
| Quantity |
The default is 1. You can enter a different quantity as needed if your eBay account is eligible to list multiple items. |
| Duration |
The Duration options appear in a selection list. The valid number of listing days depends on whether you
are selling an item auction-style or fixed-price. Your eBay account must be eligible for 1-day listings, and a 10-day auction
has an extra eBay fee. |
If you do not wish to add a YouTube video, your new listing is finished. Continue with
Submit your eBay listing.
Adding YouTube video to each listing is straightforward. Shoot your item video (or videos) with your mobile camera. Upload each video to your YouTube
account with the YouTube for Mobile MMS send feature.
Tip Give your item videos short descriptive names when you upload them. This will make it easy to select
your item video using Midprofile and to make sure the video-id stands out from other videos posted to your YouTube account.
It takes about 15 minutes for you to receive a confirmation text message from YouTube that a new video has been posted. This means that the video-id is
available. Choose Video-Ids from the Main Menu, then select Download from the menu. You'll see a progress screen during the download and
a success message when the download is complete.

Midprofile displays the names of all your most recent YouTube videos (this includes videos posted to your YouTube account from
any source). Decide which item video you want to use and select a video name from the list. Then return to the Main Menu and select Edit Listing.
The selected video displays in the YouTube pop-up list on the Edit Listing screen.
The video-ids are maintained in the pop-up list for easy selection the next time you create a listing. You need to download videos-ids only when you
post new item videos on YouTube. This will refresh the Video-Ids list.

Video guidelines
A YouTube video-id selected with Midprofile for eBay will automatically embed the video player in the Seller's description on the View Item form.
Your full-sized photos will be displayed in the description area below the video player.
- Keep your eBay item videos brief. You can shoot effective videos of a minute or less.
- Show what your still photos can't — motion, action, lights, sound.
- Demonstate that an item is in working order, e.g., run a power tool, turn on a small appliance, light a lamp.
- Keep the camera focused on the item and not the surroundings.
- Add your own voice recording to promote your item.
- Make a connection with buyers and gain their confidence.
- Practice what you want to say.
When your listing is complete, exit to the Main Menu and select
Submit Listing. Midprofile displays the Submit Now/Later? screen.
Submit Now
Choose
Now if you are ready to submit your listing. Midprofile displays the Confirm Listing screen so you can double-check your listing before
you transmit it to eBay. You can make and save changes, or even discard the listing and begin over. When your review is complete, select
Ok to submit
the item for live transmission to Bay.

Within seconds you'll get a message that your item was successfully
submitted to eBay with its new Item ID number. The new listing will look exactly the same as if you submitted it from your PC. You can exit Midprofile
for eBay if your session is finished, or continue with your next new item listing.
Tip You can set a listing delay on your Midprofile account to schedule the start time of your
Midprofile for eBay submissions. (You must have a credit card online at eBay to be eligible for scheduled listings.) You can preview
your submissions online in Scheduled listings in the My eBay Summary page before they go live. You can reset the listing delay on your Midprofile account
whenever you want. See the FAQ for instructions.
Submit Later
Choose
Later if you want to send the listing to eBay at a more convenient time. See
View Listings features to learn
how to do this.
The View Listings features let you do a range of actions to manage your Midprofile for eBay listings:
- See the status of all your current listings
- Copy a listing with List Similar to use as the base for a new listing
- Get fresh updates of recent live listings that you submitted to eBay from your mobile
- End an active listing on eBay
An icon appears next to each listing to explain its status.
View pending listings
Choose
View Listings on the Main Menu to see the Listed Items page and your current Midprofile for eBay listing activity.
The name of each listing in progress is always available. This includes any unfinished listing you are still editing, and any listing you
chose to Submit Later. To view information on a particular listing choose
View Info on the menu.

The View Info menu gives you a choice of actions
for listings that have not yet been submitted to eBay.
Submit/EditChoose this option when:
- You saved a listing for Later submission and are now ready send it. Midprofile return to the Edit Listing page.
Review and save the listing, then select Now at the Submit Now/Later? prompt.
- You want to make changes to an unfinished listing. Midprofile return to the Edit Listing page so you can continue.

original listing. Enter a new title then continue as usual to make and save changes.

Not recommended for this release.
Download
Use the
Download option so you can view updated information for the 5 most recent listings submitted to eBay. You can still get live updates on
older listings — provided they are accessible on the Listed Items screen — by selecting a listing name and using
Update Info.
Clear List
Note Do NOT use this option if you have any unsubmitted listings because you will delete your work in progress.
Clearing the Listed Item screen removes everything on the screen. Typically, you would use Clear List when the listings on the screen have
sold or expired. You can use Download to view your 5 most recent listings. Older submitted listings will not be available.
A custom profile lets you create the framework for an eBay listing that you submit from your mobile. You control the selling format,
shipping choices, and most other features that are available when you list on eBay using a PC. All your seller preferences are included in your custom profile.
You can create custom profiles for classic auction-style listings, and for Buy It Now listings if your eBay account is eligible. A custom profile is very similar to a saved
template created with eBay's Sell your Item form.
Tip Depending on your selling style, you may need only one custom profile to cover all of your eBay listing needs.
To start off, you need to create a streamlined eBay sample test listing that contains your personalized choices. Select a general-purpose category for the greatest
flexibility. Make sure the category contains a choice for Item Condition. The Item Condition is very important to buyers and is featured prominently on the View Item page.
You can change the category directly from your mobile phone whenever you sell a different kind of item. See Guidelines for other considerations.
- For eBay.com users, a simple example is Busines & Industrial /Other
- For eBay Motors users, a simple example is Parts & Accessories/Other
- Users registered on international eBay sites can select any suitable category
Basic steps
- Sign in to your eBay account on your PC to create the sample listing
- Specify the category and selling format you want
- Create a title for the test listing that includes words such as No Bidding, Test Auction
- Specify details such as item condition, return policy, handling time, insurance, design features, and shipping options
- Preview the sample listing to make sure it contains all the features you want
- Submit the sample listing to eBay and note the eBay Item ID
- Sign in to your Midprofile account on your PC
- Choose Profiles to open the Profile Manager
- Enter your new Profile Name, the test listing eBay Item ID, and a brief Description
- Choose Add New Profile to create the custom profile
The Midprofile Profile Manager allows you to add, list/update, delete, activate and deactivate your profiles. You download and store custom profiles
on your mobile with Midprofile for eBay's
Profiles feature the same way you download standard profiles.
A custom profile preserves all the details from your sample eBay test listing. Some details such as price and duration are visible on your mobile. You can change
these item details whenever you use the profile to create a mobile listing with Midprofile for eBay.
| eBay element |
How the custom profile handles it |
| Title |
The title words will be stripped away. The New Listing screen on your mobile will always display a blank title field whenever you use the profile. |
| Photos |
Do not include photos (including a gallery photo), videos, or other images in your test eBay listing. They are not needed for a custom profile because you
will be capturing photos and video on your mobile device. |
| Item Specifics |
Midprofile for eBay 2.0 does not reliably support item specifics EXCEPT for Item Condition. New or Used are the best Item Condition choices because
they are maintained across most categories. The current release of Midprofile does not allow you to change item specifics directly from your mobile (e.g., you could
not change a Material item specific from Wool to Cotton.) Using descriptive keywords is a good workaround. |
| Shipping options |
- All domestic shipping options for the site where you are registered are supported, including Free Shipping and Pickup Only.
- Calculated shipping The custom profile will be based on the package size specified in your sample listing. You will need to create custom
profiles of various package sizes if you plan to sell items of different weights/sizes (e.g., small, medium, large). When you use Midprofile for eBay on your mobile you can choose the correct
profile depending on the size of the item you are listing. Calculated shipping is priced automatically so the S&H (Shipping&Handling) field on Midprofile for eBay always remains blank.
- Flat rate shipping services If you offer different flat rate shipping services (e.g., ground, express) your specific pricing options will be retained in the profile. When you download the
profile to Midprofile for eBay you will see the price for the the first shipping service only. Do not change this field.
Note If you want the flexibility to change a flat shipping rate on your mobile, create a custom profile with one flat rate
shipping service. You can change this price on your mobile for situations such as shipping an irregular size package.
|
| Description |
You can create a placeholder description formatted exactly the way you want. All layout, color, size and font attributes will be retained in the custom profile.
When you enter your item description on your mobile you can write over or delete the placeholder text but keep the surrounding HTML.
|
Note After you successfully create your custom profile with the Profile Manager you can delete the
eBay sample test listing or let it expire.
Settings menu
Most of the Settings options are for Midprofile development only or reserved for future use. Do not change these settings unless you have a problem and are
instructed to change a setting by Midprofile support.
Select Settings from the Main Menu. The Listing Settings allow you to make some convenient choices:
- Create Quick Text keys as text enhancement aids for your descriptions
- Select a default profile for new listings
- Reset categories to clear the available categories list

Quick Text keys are a timesaver when you are creating a Midprofile for eBay listing description. You can define Quick Text keys to enhance the description and to
create blocks of text that you can insert with a keystroke. Some suggestions:
- Provide details about your shipping service
- Add HTML for font style, size and color preferences
- Add the HTML format for a bulleted list
- Leave a message or greeting for buyers
eBay HTML tips provides ideas for using HTML effectively on eBay listing descriptions.
Quick Text keys are flexible. For example, you can enter short HTML for formatting, a brief text phrase, or a complex block of text (up to 400 characters).
Choose Listing Settings on the Settings menu. Define up to 5 different Quick Text keys for whatever shortcuts you choose. Select Save/Ok to save
the changes. The new Quick Text keys will be added to the Description page menu.
Select Default Profile

You can choose a default profile that displays automatically whenever you begin a new listing. If you want to switch to a different profile
and override the default, use the Main Menu
Profile option.
Reset categories

Each time you search for and choose a category it is added to the list of
available categories. If you want to clear the list, choose
Listing Settings on the Settings menu. Choose
Reset Categories from the menu.
This action clears the Available Categories list, except for categories associated with any downloaded profiles.
